Shirley Borokhov is the grandaughter of a Russian cabinet maker who was coerced into becoming a Cossack because of his exceptional skills as a rider.

 

After escaping to England he never rode again. But,as is the quirky nature of genetic influence, both his grandaughter and great grandaughter have an obsession about horses!

 

Shirley Borokhov is an artist who has work in private collections all over the world.

 

Primarily a sculptor, her paintings and drawings are equally idiosyncratic and recognisable.

 

Although her head portraits are poignantly realistic, she has a predilection for subjects caught in action - especially horses - but also dancers, gymnasts, and other athletes.

 

Interestingly a lot of interior designers like to use Borokhov’s work to add verve and gusto to their interiors.
